Tea Preparation & Tips

Good tea doesn't start with buying it, but with brewing it. With the right amount, temperature, and brewing time, each variety unfolds its full aroma. Here you will find the most important basics for perfect tea enjoyment – clearly explained and directly applicable.

The right amount of tea

Too little tea tastes watery, too much quickly becomes bitter or overwhelming. The basic rule is:

  • Black tea, Green tea, Oolong: 1 teaspoon per cup (approx. 2–3 g)

  • Herbal and fruit tea: 1 heaped teaspoon per cup

  • Large-leaf teas: dose by volume, not by weight

For pot brewing: plan an additional spoon "for the pot."

The right water temperature

The temperature significantly determines taste and digestibility.

  • Black tea: 100 °C

  • Herbal & fruit tea: 100 °C

  • Green tea: 70–80 °C

  • White tea: 75–85 °C

  • Oolong: 80–90 °C

Water that is too hot can make delicate green teas bitter. A short moment of cooling after boiling is often enough.

The optimal brewing time

Even a few seconds significantly change the aroma.

  • Black tea: 3–5 minutes

  • Green tea: 2–3 minutes

  • White tea: 2–4 minutes

  • Oolong: 3 minutes

  • Herbal & fruit tea: 5–10 minutes

A shorter brewing time results in a lighter taste, a longer one in a stronger and more intense flavor.

Do not underestimate water quality

Soft, fresh water brings out flavors more clearly. Very hard water can affect taste and color. If you live in a region with hard water, you will benefit from a water filter.

Loose leaf tea or tea bags?

Loose leaf tea generally offers larger leaf particles and more room to unfurl. Tea can also develop well in high-quality pyramid bags. It is important that the leaves have enough space in the water.

Common mistakes in tea preparation

  • Water too hot for green tea

  • Brewing tea for too long

  • Using too little leaf material

  • Refilling tea multiple times with boiling water

Many high-quality teas – especially green tea and oolong – are very suitable for multiple infusions.

More enjoyment with small details

  • Preheating the teapot

  • Controlling brewing time with a timer

  • Completely removing the tea after brewing

  • Ensuring airtight storage

This keeps your tea moment clear, aromatic, and balanced.
